Barton provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for a new 90,250 square-foot elementary school located in the School District of the City of York. The school will include classrooms for grades k-15 as well as a multipurpose room, library, art rooms and music rooms. The building’s systems include a geothermal heating and cooling system, extensive day lighting and day lighting controls and a building dashboard where students will be able to monitor the buildings energy use. The District is pursuing LEED® Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The project received the 2011 Overall Design Award from the Green Building Association of Central Pennsylvania.

Yorkshire Elementary School

Barton provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for a new 60,835 square-foot elementary school that includes classrooms, administrative offices, multi-purpose areas and computer rooms as well as a cafeteria, kitchen and gymnasium. The mechanical systems included a geothermal heat pump system and an evacuated tube solar domestic water heater. The district is pursuing LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The project received the 2011 Citation of Excellence Award from Learning by Design.

Spring Grove Area High School
Stadium and Athletic Facility

Barton provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for a new athletic facility and a 7,000-seat stadium for Spring Grove Area High School in the Spring Grove Area School District. The athletic facility includes a football/soccer stadium, baseball fields, concession stands and locker rooms.
School District of the City of York
Lindbergh Education Center
York, PA
Barton provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for a renovation to the district’s former administration building to convert the 24,611 square-foot building into an alternative education school for students in grades 9-12. Barton’s design included ground-source heat pumps for heating and cooling. Since the original 1875 exterior walls were not being enhanced, perimeter radiation was included with heat generated by the geothermal system. The District earned Silver Level LEED® certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for this project.
Central York School District High School Natatorium
York, PA
Barton provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for a 62,000 square-foot addition to Central York High School, which included a 20,000 square-foot natatorium with an 8-lane competition-class pool as well as supporting amenities to accommodate local and regional swim and diving meets. This project received the Citation Award for Specialized Facilities from American School and University Magazine in 2009.
State College Area School District
Mount Nittany Elementary School
State College, PA
Barton is providing mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for a new, 60,500 square-foot elementary school located in the State College Area School District to house 500 k-5 students. The new school includes 18 classrooms, 3 kindergarten rooms, an all purpose room, full service kitchen, library, full size and instrumental music rooms, art room, 3 small group instruction rooms and administrative offices. The mechanical systems included a geothermal heat pump system coupled with a dedicated outdoor air ventilation system. The district will pursue LEED® Gold certification upon completion of this project.
