Penn State University Pattee Library

Foster Auditorium Relocation

University Park, PA

Barton used building information modeling (BIM) technology to provide mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services to relocate and transform 6,000 square feet of the library into a new reading room and lecture room to provide more direct and convenient access to the West Pattee portion of the library, which is the core of the Knowledge Commons.  The project included developing a reading room for the students that include break out study areas and leisure reading areas.  The project also involved a new, 135-seat auditorium and relocation of the original auditorium to accommodate the new reading room. The use of BIM on this project facilitated close coordination between HVAC, lighting and technology requirements and allowed the team to coordinate a complex coffered ceiling among all disciplines.
