August 22, 2008 – Barton Associates, Inc., a mechanical, electrical and plumbing consulting engineering firm, serving the Mid-Atlantic Region, recently hired Kevin Barnett as a Controls and Commissioning Agent.

Barnett holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology from Penn State University’s Capitol Campus. Prior to joining Barton, Barnett worked as a Commissioning Agent and Electrical Designer for KCI Technologies, Inc. He resides in York County.

Barnett will be responsible for supporting the firm’s controls and commissioning department by providing technical support for both building automation systems and commissioning projects as well as project management and functional performance testing associated with building commissioning, retro-commissioning, systems validation and LEED® commissioning projects. Kevin will also be leading the firm’s effort to provide Arc Flash analysis.

Barton Associates Welcomes Two New Electrical Designers

July 28, 2008 – Barton Associates, Inc., a mechanical, electrical and plumbing consulting engineering firm, serving the Mid-Atlantic Region, recently hired Eric Sternberg as an Electrical Designer for Barton Education and Matthew Small as a CADD Technician and Electrical Designer for Barton Healthcare.

Sternberg holds a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from Penn State University and recently earned his Engineer-in-Training Certification. Before joining Barton, Sternberg completed internships with Michael Baker Engineering, Grenald Waldron Associates and Williamson Design. He also served as a research assistant with Penn State. He resides in York County.
Small holds a bachelor’s degree in bible from Philadelphia Biblical University and is currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering from York College of Pennsylvania. He resides in York County.

As electrical designers, Sternberg and Small will be responsible for design calculations and layouts including computer selections, calculations, research and specifications of equipment and research of code requirements. They will also be responsible for assisting the project engineer in the preparation of studies, reports, specifications and construction cost estimating.

July 11, 2008 – Barton Associates, Inc., a mechanical, electrical, and plumbing consulting engineering firm serving the Mid-Atlantic Region, recently named Sherri Young as Marketing Director for the firm.

As Marketing Director, Young is responsible for planning and executing marketing communications as well as supporting business development initiatives for the firm’s two divisions—Barton Education and Barton Healthcare.

Young brings more than seven years of marketing and business development experience to the firm and has four years of experience in the engineering consulting industry. Young earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from West Chester University and a master’s degree in business administration from Millersville University. She resides in Lancaster County.

Engineering Firm Creates Two Divisions and Promotes Two Key Staff Members

July 1, 2008 – Barton Associates, Inc., a mechanical, electrical and plumbing consulting engineering firm, primarily serving the Mid-Atlantic Region, recently announced its decision to create two divisions—Barton Education and Barton Healthcare—and promoted two key professionals to lead each division.

Jon Slagel, PE, was promoted to Vice President of Barton Healthcare and Mike Rader, PE, became Vice President of Barton Education. “We realized a need to focus exclusively on our two strongest markets,” said N. Daniel Waltersdorff, President. “We have been active in the education and healthcare markets for 40 years and Jon and Mike both possess the experience and leadership qualities necessary to lead their divisions and enhance Barton’s focus within each market.”

Slagel joined Barton in 1994 and has 14 years of experience as a mechanical engineer. In addition to being a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, Slagel recently became a Certified Healthcare Facility Design Professional with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and is also a LEED Certified Professional with the U.S. Green Building Council. He resides in York County.

Rader joined Barton in 1997 and has 13 years of experience as a mechanical engineer. Rader is a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and has a master’s degree in business from Loyola College. He resides in York County.

Both gentlemen are responsible for overseeing their respective departments, managing staff and operations and attracting new business within the firm’s targeted geographic regions.

Barton Associates, Inc. Earns Spot on the Zweig Letter’s 200 Hot Firms List


Barton Associates, Inc. was named one of the Zweig Letter’s 200 hottest firms in their eighth annual list that was released on Monday, October 29, 2007. Barton Associate placed 155th on the Hot Firm 2007 List, which includes architecture, engineering, and environmental consulting firms in the United States and Canada. This annual list features the 200 firms that have outperformed the economy and competitors to become industry leaders.

Barton Associates was one of only five firms in the nation that specializes exclusively in mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering to be recognized and only one of eight firms headquartered in Pennsylvania to make the list.

To be considered for the Hot Firm List 2007, firms had to show significant revenue growth from 2003-2006 while starting with a base revenue of at least one million dollars in 2003. To determine firm rankings, the Zweig Letter took into account each firms dollar growth as well as its revenue percentage growth during this time period. Barton Associates percentage revenue growth during the three years was 123 percent.

Employees Raise Money for Lee National Denim Day

Barton Associates employees wore their denim on Friday, October 5, 2007 in support of the fight against breast cancer. The Lee National Denim Day is one of the largest, single-day fundraisers for breast cancer and has raised over $66 million dollars since 1996. Employees who wanted to participate were asked for a one-time donation of five dollars to wear their jeans on October 5. All proceeds of Lee’s Denim Day go to Women’s Cancer Programs to help educate, promote early detection of breast cancer, as well as provide support for cancer victims.

Staff Members Join WellSpan’s Bike Hike

Bryan Ondrasik, Ted Kopey, Craig Rider, and George Thompson participated in WellSpan’s 12th Annual Bike Hike on September 16,.,2007. The team raised over $600 for the event which benefits the Cancer Center’s Cancer Patient Help Fund and the Cancer Screening and Outreach Fund. The two funds aid in the efforts to increase the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer, as well as help the families of cancer victims with everyday expenses such as rent, food, and transportation.

Barton Associates Earns Top Fifty Fastest Growing Companies Recognition

Barton Associates was named one of Central Penn Business Journal’s Top Fifty Growing Companies Friday, September 14th during the Journal’s 11th annual awards breakfast at the Hilton Harrisburg. Barton Associates was ranked number 31 on the list which includes for-profit entities headquartered in Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry or York County.

Companies with revenue of at least $500,000 a year for the past three years were eligible for nomination. Rankings for the Top Fifty Growing Companies are based on revenue growth both in dollars and percentage over the three years. Barton Associates also received this honor in 2006.

Corey Jackson Joins Barton Associates

Corey J. Jackson has joined the Information Technology Department as a Network Assistant. Corey is graduating from ITT Technical Institute this October with an Associates Degree in Specialized Technology and Computer Network Systems.
