Are You Eligible for Lighting Rebates & Incentives?

Act 129, which was signed into law October 15, 2008, requires utility companies to reduce consumption for electricity by 1% by 2011 and 3% by 2013. Additionally, the Act requires a 4.5 percent reduction in peak demand by 2012.

In an effort to encourage customers to reduce energy consumption, utility companies are offering a variety of incentive programs to both residential and commercial customers. In particular, utility companies are urging customers to make the switch to high-efficiency lighting equipment by offering the following incentive programs:

FirstEnergy’s Standard Lighting Incentive Program
This program applies to Met-Ed, Penelec and Penn Power customers who have, or will, purchase and install qualified lighting fixtures after October 28, 2009.

PPL’s Efficient Equipment Rebate Program
This program includes an incentive for PPL customers who have, or will, replace existing equipment with qualifying energy efficient equipment on or after July 1, 2009. Note: this program requires a detailed listing of all existing fixtures and controls prior to replacing them.

Allegheny Power’s Commercial Lighting Efficiency Program
This program provides rebates for business who install qualifying energy-efficient lighting fixtures through the second quarter of 2013.

The requirements, application process, type of equipment covered and deadlines for each of these incentive programs vary, so it is important to review the criteria and requirements carefully. Be aware that most of the programs have pre-approval requirements and/or require supporting documentation as well.
