About Ryan
Ryan joined Barton in 2019 as an Mechanical Engineer at our State College Office. Ryan earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Pittsburgh.
When asking Ryan what do you most like about the ESOP, he states, “I really enjoy the team aspect it promotes. I feel like everyone wants to make the company as best as it can be because we instantly see how the results impact us.”
Tell us a little bit about your life at home.
My wife and I have an 18 month old daughter, Evie, and a 4 year old Italian Greyhound, Caesar. Evie loves trying to catch Caesar and Caesar loves all the new treats she’s been getting.
What was the first job you got a physical paycheck?
I was a dishwasher/busboy at a local Italian restaurant in my hometown.
What was your first your job in engineering like?
I had a summer internship at a coal power plant in in Beaver Falls, PA. I got to see a lot of different areas of the plant that I never really thought about like the truck weigh station, truck wash system, coal systems, drainage ponds, etc. My first post grad job was working as a government contractor for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
What do you love most about your job?
The people I work with and the new challenges. Everyday there is something new to learn or figure out.
If I wasn’t an Engineer, I’d be?
Probably would’ve majored in Turf Grass Management and be working on a golf course somewhere.
What’s your favorite sport (professional, college, or other)?
College Football – Penn State
I’m seldom without?
A fly rod.
When I’m not at work I’m doing……
In the fall, PSU football games and bow hunting. The rest of the year, fly fishing, fly trying, reading about fly fishing, and dreaming about fly fishing.
Favorite pizza topping?
Bacon and mushrooms.
What’s on your bucket list?
Visit every Big Ten stadium (was down to 2 but now at least 4 more) and visit every state (23 to go).
What’s on your “stranded on a desert island” playlist?
Country (Christ Stapleton, Tyler Childers, Luke Combs) and EDM (Tiesto, Avicii, Calvin Harris).
