Barton Associates has an integrated internship/co-op program that is designed for engineering students to receive “real-world” experience, while continuing their education. Barton offers the following opportunities depending on each student’s unique situation.
Barton will tailor each student’s internship to match their desired career path, whether it be a mechanical, plumbing, electrical or lighting designer. Each intern will be paired with a senior engineer who will help guide them through their daily activities. This mentor will guide them through the use of our building information modeling system and lead them through their assigned design tasks. Typical job assignments will include project surveys, project specific design tasks, attending project meetings, building information modeling and participating in shop drawing reviews and job-site inspections.
Each intern will spend time with our construction services department and either mechanical or electrical department so that they receive an understanding of the other disciplines on a project. Collaboration is a vital part of our industry and having a base knowledge of your teammates needs will help as you transition to a full-time career.
