Barton Education provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for a new 90,250 square-foot elementary school. The school includes classrooms for grades K-4 as well as a multipurpose room, library, art rooms and music rooms. The building’s systems include a geothermal heating and cooling system, extensive day lighting and day lighting controls, energy recovery wheels for preconditioning fresh air, fresh air for the multipurpose room based on actual occupants (demand controlled), variable exhaust flow kitchen hood based on cooking demand, low flow fixtures with dual flush water closets and waterless urinals, pulper for kitchen waste and a green vegetative roof over the library.
Awards: The school not only is the first LEED Platinum Certified Public Elementary School in Pennsylvania but is also only the second school in Pennsylvania to achieve LEED Platinum from the U.S. Green Building Council. The project also achieved the 2011 Overview Design Award from the Green Building Association of Central PA. The school now houses k-8 students.
