Barton Education provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering services for the renovation of the Housing and Food Services Building for the Pennsylvania State University. The project included the addition of a new 22,000 square-foot freezer, 9,000 square-foot cooler and a new refrigerated dock. Also included was the renovation of the existing 20,000 square-foot ambient storage area, 5,000 square-foot office area and select improvements to the baker production area. The project included new HVAC and refrigeration systems, a new 3000 amp electrical service and a 2 megawatt emergency generator for backup power, new lighting and normal/emergency power distribution. An early suppression fast response (ESFR) fire protections system was utilized for the ambient storage and cooler/freezer addition which included a 75 hp fire pump. The project was awarded the 2016 Excellence in Construction Award from the Associated Builders and Contractor, Inc., Central PA Chapter. Barton Education has also been involved with multiple renovations totaling over 45,000 square feet within the Housing and Food Services building.
