Barton Healthcare is providing mechanical, electrical and plumbing design for an approximately 80,000 square-foot renovation of five patient floors in the West Wing of UPMC Shadyside Hospital. The project includes two floors of ICU patient units, two floors of medical-surgical patient units and one floor for stem cell and bone marrow transplant patients. The project construction will be phased floor by floor which requires significant coordination of work to minimize shut-downs and service outages for functioning patient floors. The project also incorporates mechanical system infrastructure improvements including cooling tower upgrades, custom air handler unit refurbishments and upgrades, and building controls upgrades. The project will provide upgraded patient rooms that meet the needs of today’s medicine as well as UPMC’s mission to provide consistently reliable, high quality and safe patient experiences.
