About Jacob

Jacob has been with Barton since 2022 serving as an electrical designer at our State College Office. He attended The Pennsylvania State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Energy Engineering.

When asked how the ESOP impacts him the most, Jacob states “It allows me to have a hand in decisions that the company makes and have an idea where the company is headed.”

Tell us a little bit about your life at home.

My wife and I recently purchased a home in Centre Hill, PA, where we live with our two dogs, Arlo and Callie. My wife and I like going hiking, Kayaking, and playing with our dogs. We like to be home and relax more than going out.

What’s your hometown?

South Glens Falls, NY.

Where did you go to college?

Penn State Behrend then Penn State University Park.

What was your first job in engineering like?

I worked as an intern for a high-voltage engineering firm in Albany, NY during the summers while in college. My first job out of college was at an MEP firm in Albany, NY that worked on education and grocery stores.

What was the first job you got a physical paycheck?

I started as a lifeguard when I was fifteen, that was my first official paycheck. I worked construction with my father and brother under the table since I was ten years old.

How long have you been with Barton?

A year and a half.

What do you like most about the ESOP?

I enjoy the fact that in an ESOP the employees actually have a voice and ability to make a change directly, and they also benefit directly when the firm does well.

What do you love the most about your job?

I enjoy meeting new people and learning about the different building systems that are unique and different.

If I wasn’t an Electrical Designer, I’d be?

Running my own construction/landscaping business.

What’s your favorite sport?

Hockey, college or professional.

I’m seldom without?

Dental floss.

When I’m not at work I’m doing…….

Projects around the house, visiting my family in New York, or at my in-laws working on their projects.

Favorite pizza topping?

Buffalo chicken.

What’s on your “Stranded on a Desert Island” playlist?

The Lumineers or Mumford and Sons.

What’s your hidden talent?

I like to fix anything that is broken, from things around the house to construction equipment. I am also a decent baker of bread and desserts.

What’s the one movie you can watch over and over again?

Super Troopers (1&2)

What’s on your bucket list?

Visit Alaska and Canada.

When I go to a cookout I hope there’s ________ to eat.

Macaroni salad.

What’s your favorite holiday and why?

Fourth of July, it’s near my birthday and the weather is usually good.

Have you ever met your idol or someone famous? if so, who?

Bill Nye while at PSU Behrend.

Best book you’ve ever read?

The Hobbit.

What’s the best piece of advice that you’ve ever been given?

Don’t take life too seriously, nobody makes it out alive.
