About Nicholas
Nick has been with Barton for over 5 years serving as an electrical designer at our Raliegh Office! He attended the Appalachian State University earning a Bachelor of Science in Building Sciences.
“Being a part of an ESOP is exciting because I get to be a partial owner in an impressive company that is still growing, and as an employee, I am able to directly contribute to the success of the company,” stated Nick when asked what being part of an ESOP means to him.
Tell us a little about your family/home life.
My wife Rachel and I have a home in Raleigh. For the past 15 months, our main focus has been our daughter Chloe, who has grown into an energetic, spunky little toddler. We’ve been in our house since early 2020 and enjoy doing projects around the house on weekends and spending time with local friends and family.
What’s your hometown?
Raleigh, NC.
What was your first job in engineering like?
Maple Engineering was my first engineering job, and I still hold the same position today.
What was the first job you got a physical paycheck?
As a teenager, I worked at a local Irish pub called The Pipers Tavern. I started off as a busser and eventually began waiting tables.
What do you like most about the ESOP?
It makes me want to be as successful as I can be.
What do you love most about your job?
I love that I am able to have a hand in projects that shape the city around me, that I’ve grown up in and still call home. I love to see projects in the neighborhoods all around us come to fruition.
If I wasn’t an Electrical Designer, I’d be?
If I wasn’t an MEP designer, I would probably be a furniture builder. I’ve always enjoyed woodworking and enjoy working on wood projects in my spare time.
What’s your favorite sport (professional, college, or other)?
I’m a big hockey fan.
When I’m not at work I’m doing…..
Woodworking and/or home improvement projects at the house.
Favorite pizza topping?
Banana Peppers.
What’s your hidden talent?
I’m a solid guitar player.
What’s the one movie you can watch over and over again?
Happy Gilmore.
