About Phillip

Phil has been with Barton for over 22 years and serves as the Director of Construction Services and works in our State College office. He attended The Pennsylvania State University where he received his Associate in Science, Electrical Engineering Technology.

When asked what does he like most about working for an ESOP, he states, “Working at an ESOP allows us to work together towards a common set of goals to improve the careers quality of life of every fellow employee owner.”

Tell us a little about your family/home life.

I have one son, 31 years old. He lives in Concord California and works for Rivian. I have been married for 37 years and my wife works for the library system at PSU.

What does being part of an ESOP mean to you?

It is a good way to supplement our retirement.

What was your first job in engineering like?

I worked for a very large AE firm in Gaithersburg, MD. At the time I worked on projects where there were probably about 200 to 300 engineers working in large open offices on drafting tables, white shirts and ties. There was a lot of cigarette smoke.

What was the first job you got a physical paycheck?

I was a busboy at a local restaurant.

What do you love most about your job?

I like working with different people and getting on jobsites.

If I wasn’t a Director of Construction Services, I’d be?

Geologist.

What’s your favorite sport (professional, college, or other)?

College Football.

I’m seldom without?

My dog.

When I’m not at work I’m doing……

Gardening.

Favorite pizza topping?

Sausage.

What’s on your “stranded on a desert island” playlist?

Chris Stapleton & Puccini.

What’s the one movie you can watch over and over again?

Several – Die Hard & Caddy Shack.

What’s on your bucket list?

Travel to Italy to see my grandmother’s and grandfather’s homes.

When I go to a cookout, I hope there’s __ to eat.

Barbeque.

What’s your favorite holiday and why?

Thanksgiving. We generally have a good portion of our family staying for the holiday.

Have you ever met your idol or someone famous? If so, who?

I met Larry Bird in the Cleveland Airport and Burl Ives in the Huntsville AI Airport.
