Robert S. Alfaro

About Robert

Robert has been with Barton for over 10 years serving as a Project Manager at our Raliegh Office! He attended the Wake Technical Community College where he earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science.

“Involvement in the ESOP committee is the most tangible impact. That and jumping straight into volunteering to be the Engagement Sub-Committee Chair.” Stated Robert when asked how the ESOP impacts him the most.

Tell us a little about your family/home life.

I have been married to my wonderful wife, Deanna, for over 12 years. We have two amazing daughters, Hannah (9) and Kaylee (6). Hannah was born during a snowstorm, a rarity down here in NC. Kaylee was born during the 2017 solar eclipse. We currently have one dog, Kiko, an American Akita/German Shepard mix.

What’s your hometown?

Originally from Baltimore.

Where did you go to college?

Wake Tech Community College.

What was your first job in engineering like?

I worked for a locally owned machine shop about 40 miles outside of Raleigh in the QA/QC lab. I can’t say a lot of positive things about that experience, but I did learn a lot.

What was the first job you got a physical paycheck?

Grocery bagger at a Winn Dixie.

How long have you been with Barton?

11 years.

What does being part of an ESOP mean to you?

I feel a very real sense that everyone in the company truly cares about what they do and where the company is headed in the future.

What do you like most about the ESOP?

Every employee gets a voice, no matter their position in the company.

What do you love most about your job?

My work results in something tangible in my local community and elsewhere that is making the lives of those in those communities better in some way, more enjoyable, etc.

What’s your favorite sport (professional, college, or other)?

F1 or WRC.

I’m seldom without?

Headphones on with music playing.

When I’m not at work I’m doing…..

Spending time with my wife or daughters. Gaming on my PC with friends, solo, or with my daughters. In my garage wrenching on a car or weightlifting. Painting small plastic figures so they can take the field of battle and fight other people’s small plastic figures.

Favorite pizza topping?

Pepperoni.

What’s on your “stranded on a desert island” playlist?

This is a hard one for me. I tend to like to listen to complete albums start-to-finish. If I had to pick a “desert playlist” of my most played albums of last year it would be:

1) Haken – “Vector”
2) Periphery – “Juggernaut Alpha/Omega”
3) Slugdge – “Esoteric Malacology”

What’s the one movie you can watch over and over again?

Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Best book you’ve ever read?

Maybe not “best” but The Dark Tower series by Stephen King is up there with some of my favorites.
