Barton Healthcare incorporated building information modeling (BIM) technology to provide mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for the renovation of two existing operating rooms and ancillary support space into a single, new Hybrid Operating Room with imaging control room, robotic surgery equipment and console, computer equipment, storage, relocated corridor and connection to existing egress stair for Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. The project included new air handlers, air distribution, medical gas and vacuum, power and lighting systems and digital systems integration (Steris). The hybrid functions included in the room were Davinci robotic surgery equipment, heart catheterization and open heart surgery. To accommodate the ceiling rails as well as several overhead booms, an integrated ceiling system was utilized to provide a clean, custom look while providing functional airflow distribution and lighting.
Awards: The project design and construction team received the “Excellence in Construction” award from the Keystone Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. for this project.
