Okein joined Barton in 2025 as an electrical designer supporting our Philadelphia offices. He earned a Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering from Temple University

Tell us a little about your family/home life.

I come from a supportive, close-knit family that prioritized hard work and education. Growing up with a father who was self-employed, I learned early the value of taking initiative and consistency, which I bring into my professional life.

What’s your hometown?

Spanish Town, Jamaica

What was your first job in engineering like?

My first engineering job was at a firm who focused on Life Science and Food/Beverage. I worked there for several years as an E&I (Electrical and Instrumentation) Engineer, where we mainly focused on automating mass production of pharmaceutical drugs and the construction of research and development centers.

What was the first job you got a physical paycheck?

My first job was at a summer camp as an counselor.

What does being part of an ESOP mean to you?

Being part of an ESOP means I am no longer just an employee; I am an owner. It completely changes my perspective on daily work because I know that my effort directly impacts the company’s success, and therefore, my own financial future.

How does the ESOP impact you the most?

It adds an additional sense of security and wealth building.

What do you love most about your job?

I love acting as the bridge between technology and patient care. Working closely with healthcare professionals to understand their needs and then creating solutions that make their work easier, and ultimately, the patient experience better, is what keeps me motivated.

If I wasn’t an electrical designer, I’d be?

Food critic.

What’s your favorite sport?

Track and field.

I’m seldom without?

A watch.

When I’m not at work I’m doing……

Enjoying time with friends and family.

Favorite Pizza Topping?

Bacon.

What’s on your “stranded on a desert island” playlist?

Early 1900s Reggae (Bob Marley mix).

What’s on your bucket list?

Sky diving.

When I go to a cookout I hope there’s __ to eat.

Bacon burgers.

Best book you’ve ever read?

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. It’s a grand moral epic that questions the nature of justice and vengeance.

What’s the best piece of advice that you’ve ever been given?

Focus on what you can control and let go of what you cannot.
