About Jason

“I like the employee engagement activities that I’ve been hearing about, and I can’t wait to participate. The lunches and birthday cupcakes have been a welcomed benefit as well,” Jason shared when asked what he likes most about the ESOP.

Jason and his family wearing winter coats and hats smile for a selfie in front of a large outdoor ice-skating rink, with numerous skaters and trees visible in the background.

Tell us a little about your family/home life.

My home life is very much focused on my family. My kids both play sports and I am the type of parent that does not like to miss any games. I know this stage of life won’t last forever so I am soaking up every bit of it that I can. My wife and I are blessed to have all of our parents, and they live close as well, so we like to spend time with them as we know that stage won’t last forever either.

What’s your hometown?

I grew up in a very small town called Morrisville, NY. I graduated with 40 kids.

Where did you go to college?

I attended an electrical apprenticeship for my post high school education in Baltimore, MD.

What was your first job in engineering like?

My first job in engineering is the one I currently have, as a Construction Services Representative for Barton. It is amazing! Although challenging at times, I am learning every day and meeting new people often.

What was the first job you got a physical paycheck?

I was a dishwasher at the local diner in my small town. Then moved from washing dishes to being a short order cook. I believe that’s where I learned customer service is paramount!

What does being part of an ESOP mean to you?

It means that all employees have skin in the game. I am new to ESOPs, but I think it is a great thing we have at Barton.

What do you love most about your job?

I think it’s two-fold for me. First, I love what my career has evolved into this role. I never thought in a million years that I would be doing something like this. After 24 years of electrical construction and feeling like I was in a rut, this opportunity allows me to use my field experience as well as learn so much more about the engineering and construction industry. Second, it’s the people. I have never had the comradery at work like we have here. Everyone is so helpful and nice. Not only within the company, but all the people we work with on projects as well.

What’s your favorite sport (professional, college, or other)?

NFL.

I’m seldom without?

My guitars.

Favorite Pizza Topping?

Black olives.

What’s on your “stranded on a desert island” playlist?

Buffet! Anything Buffet.

What’s your hidden talent?

Music.

What’s the one movie you can watch over and over again?

Christmas Vacation.

What’s on your bucket list?

Someday when I retire, I would like to Busk in Mallory Square. Just sit in the park with my guitar and sing for tips.

When I go to a cookout I hope there’s __ to eat.

Baked beans.

What’s your favorite holiday and why?

Thanksgiving. To me, it’s the holiday that represents family and togetherness the most.

What’s the best piece of advice that you’ve ever been given?

The first electrician that I apprenticed for told me very early in my career……. “There are no problems, only solutions.”
