Tell us a little about your family/home life.
I enjoy daily life at home with Priscilla, who I’ve been with for 11 years. Home life is working on odds and ends around the house, or just chilling in front of the tv, laying in the hammock, or going for a walk around our East York neighborhood. We have been using the garden that was established with the house since we bought it in 2019. During the growing season we have lots of tomatoes – that we make our own tomato sauce, grape tomatoes, green peppers, cantaloupe, strawberries and the blackberry bush produces hundreds of blackberries each year that we use to make our own smoothies. I have 2 sons from a prior marriage. My oldest lives on his own and another that is in college. Priscillas youngest daughter, almost 21, lives at home and is in the same college as my youngest son.
What’s your hometown?
Although I’ve lived in 4 different states, have moved 15 or so times in my years, grew up in Southern York County – New Freedom, PA, I would say York is my hometown.
What was your first job in engineering like?
Straight out of YTI I worked as a Technical Illustrator for a company using pen and ink on mylar doing hand drawn isometrics ‘on the board’ using French curves and triangles to show all the various parts and pieces of a Mack truck and how they were put together. These mylar drawings were taken to a camera room where they were reduced in size and printed on matte paper that would eventually go into a Mack Truck repair manual along with a parts listing describing each part and piece. Although it was interesting, doing board drafting was not my thing. My schooling at YTI was focused on using AUTOCAD and I wanted to use the knowledge I was taught there. So, I eventually was able to get my foot in the door at the now long-gone A/E firm, St. Onge, Ruff, and Associates as an electrical drafter.
What was the first job you got a physical paycheck?
My first job I got a physical paycheck would be the paperboy route that I had when I was a young teen living in New Freedom, riding my bike, delivering the evening paper, York Dispatch. There was the physical paycheck and in addition to that was the money I made from customers on my route that were ‘Carrier Collect’.
