About Russ
Russell has been with Barton for over 17 years as a Senior Mechanical Engineer and Project Manager at our York Office. He attended Rutgers University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
“With employee ownership, there is a direct tangible benefit to everyone doing the best job they can. Personally, it motivates me to work harder,” stated Russ when asked how the ESOP impacts him the most.

Tell us a little about your family/home life.
I live in York PA with my wife, three kids, and our German Shepherd named Remington. I wanted to name him Browning… but I got overruled.
What’s your hometown?
I am originally from Pemberton, New Jersey. I typically tell people I am from South Jersey (in lieu of New Jersey), so they don’t immediately ask why I don’t have a New York accent.
What was your first job in engineering like?
Barton Associates is my first engineering job.
What was the first job you got a physical paycheck?
My first paying job was picking blueberries on my grandparent’s blueberry farm. The first job that I got a physical paycheck was as a “Summer Hire” at McGuire Air Force Base. The base would hire high school and college kids to do general labor tasks like pulling weeds, pressure washing, changing HVAC filters, etc.
If I wasn’t a Mechanical Engineer, I’d be?
Fighter Pilot.
What’s your favorite sport (professional, college, or other)?
My favorite sport is football, and I am a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan. Go Birds-Dallas Sucks!!
When I’m not at work I’m doing……
Projects around the house, fixing something, golfing, hunting, working on old John Deere tractors, or getting a kid to football practice, basketball practice, track practice, dance lessons, voice lessons, piano lessons, or horseback riding lessons.
Favorite pizza topping?
Bacon.
What’s on your “stranded on a desert island” playlist?
The sound of the waves would be enough.
What’s the one movie you can watch over and over again?
Happy Gilmore.
Have you ever met your idol or someone famous? If so, who?
I attended my first ever Eagles game in the fall of 2019 and had the privilege of sitting in a skybox suite. As I was walking to the skybox, I passed the Eagles GM, Howie Roseman. To this day I regret not telling him we needed a corner.
Best book you’ve ever read?
I can read…I just choose not to. I’m more of an “I’ll wait for the movie!” kind of guy.
