About Sydney
Sydney first joined Barton in 2024 as an intern at our Raleigh office. After graduating in the summer of 2024, Sydney accepted a full-time role with Barton as a Mechanical Designer. Sydney attended East Carolina University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
When asked how the ESOP impacts her the most, Sydney stated, “The ESOP impacts me the most by fostering a strong sense of community and giving me a voice in the company’s future.”

Tell us a little about your family/home life.
I share an apartment with my twin brother, and we love visiting our parents in South Carolina whenever we can.

What was your first job in engineering like?
This is my first job in engineering! I’m excited to be starting my engineering career at Barton, and I’m really enjoying it so far.
What was the first job you got a physical paycheck?
The first job I got a physical paycheck was working for my dad doing a house flip.
What does being part of an ESOP mean to you?
Being part of an ESOP means I feel more invested in the company’s future, knowing my work contributes to our shared growth.
What do you like most about the ESOP?
What I like most about the ESOP is the opportunity for a stake in the company’s success.
What do you love most about your job?
I really value the strong sense of community here and the opportunities to learn from my coworkers. As I continue to grow in my role, I appreciate the time they’ve taken to teach me about the industry and our processes.
If I wasn’t a designer, I’d be?
If I wasn’t a designer, I’d be a doctor.
What’s your favorite sport (professional, college, or other)?
My favorite sport is soccer at any level.

When I’m not at work, I’m hanging out with friends or at church.

Pepperoni and banana peppers.
What’s on your “stranded on a desert island” playlist?
It’s got to have Ocean Alley, “Orange Blossoms” by Goldford, and “Island in the Sun” by Weezer.
What’s your hidden talent?
Maybe not hidden, but I love cooking.
What’s the one movie you can watch over and over again?
Major Payne.
What’s on your bucket list?
Visit all 50 states and travel abroad.
When I go to a cookout I hope there’s __ to eat.
Buffalo chicken dip.
What’s your favorite holiday and why?
I love Christmas for the nostalgic atmosphere it brings and the chance to spend quality time with family.
Have you ever met your idol or someone famous? If so, who?
In college, I went to a Christian conference called Passion and met a famous Christian artist, Kristian Stanfill. He was walking around below the stage and stopped and talked to me and my friends for a couple minutes!
Best book you’ve ever read?
Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund.
What’s the best piece of advice that you’ve ever been given?
I think the best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is you can’t control everything, but you can control how you respond.
