Athletics, Recreation & Fitness Center Receives Significant Upgrades

Barton Education provided MEP engineering and lighting design services for a 10,000 square-foot renovation and a 55,000 square-foot addition to Gettysburg College’s existing sports and recreation facility.

The addition included a new weight and fitness room, athletic training room with a Hydroworx therapy pool and a natatorium with eight competition lanes, a five-lane warm-up pool and 350-seat spectator gallery.

The project also included infrastructure improvements such as the relocation of campus utilities and updates to the campus central plant, as well as the design of energy-efficient systems such as centrifugal chillers, high-efficiency water tube re-heat boilers and daylighting and water conservation methods.

One of the most significant features of this facility is an 80’ thermal chimney enclosing the rock-climbing wall to provide natural ventilation and cooling.

The College achieved LEED Gold from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
