Barton Associates Careers: We’re More Than Engineers. We’re Owners.

At Barton Associates, the people who do the work share in what it builds. For over 58 years, we’ve grown by bringing on engineers who are committed to technical excellence, genuine partnership, and the long run.

What It Means to Build a Career at Barton Associates

Barton Associates has spent more than 58 years as a leading MEP consulting firm, engineering the systems that keep schools running, hospitals healing, and laboratories discovering. We are mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers, designers, technicians, and support staff. We take the work personally because we have a stake in the outcome. Every eligible full-time employee at Barton Associates is an owner through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan. Our success is shared, and so is our standard.

01

Ownership with real value.

As an ESOP company, Barton Associates contributes shares to your retirement account at no cost to you, on top of a competitive salary and benefits.
The better the firm does, the more your stake grows.

02

Breadth that builds expertise.

Healthcare, K–12, higher education, science and technology, commercial, multifamily, restaurants, and government projects — often on the same résumé. At Barton Associates, variety isn’t the exception. It’s how we develop well-rounded engineers.

03

A team that stays.

Our average tenure is 8.2 years, well above industry norms.
The engineers you’ll work alongside aren’t passing through. Many have spent entire careers here, and that continuity shows in the quality of our work.

A Place Where People Stay

The way we work matters as much as what we deliver. At Barton Associates, that means flexible schedules built around the realities of project work and family life. It means an office where you can find a quiet corner to focus or pull a team together to whiteboard a tricky load calculation. It means jobsite walks with seasoned engineers who teach by doing, not just by reviewing redlines.

It also means celebrating the wins: project closeouts, ESOP distribution days, promotions, personal and professional milestones, and company gatherings. And the smaller things, too, like office lunches, the running inside jokes, and the kind of conversations that only happen when people stay long enough to actually know each other.

Compensation, benefits, and professional development

Tuition reimbursement and continuing-education support

Licensure exam fee coverage and study time

Employee Ownership Isn’t a Perk. It’s How We’re Built.

ESOP stands for Employee Stock Ownership Plan. In plain terms, it means Barton Associates is owned by the people who work here. When you join as a full-time employee and meet eligibility requirements, you become a participant in the ESOP, and shares of company stock are allocated to your retirement account each year at no cost to you. The longer you stay, and the more the company grows, the more your share is worth.

Employee ownership changes how a firm operates. Decisions get made with the long view. Project quality is not someone else’s problem. Mentorship is in everyone’s interest, because the person you train today is the person whose work grows the value of your stake tomorrow.

This is not a benefit we added to look good on a careers page. It is the structure of the company itself.

You Own a Piece of the Company

After meeting eligibility requirements, shares are allocated to your account annually. You don’t buy in. You earn in.

Your Work Builds Your Future

Strong project performance, repeat clients, and disciplined growth all directly increase the value of your retirement account.

Shared Success, Shared Standards

Ownership means accountability. Every employee has a reason to deliver work that lasts and relationships that hold.

From the People Who Build Here

Being part of an ESOP means everyone has a reason to care — not just about their own work, but about each other’s. No matter your experience level or role, you have real impact here. That shared purpose shapes how we work together every day.

Mike Ginder, Director of Electrical Engineering

10+ years at Barton Associates

No two days are exactly the same, which I love. When I decided to go back for my MBA — not something my role required — Barton supported me through tuition reimbursement and gave me real opportunities to apply what I was learning. Having that kind of backing made all the difference. The small things here add up fast: flexibility, the people, the culture. It’s genuinely easy to build a life around work when the work respects your life.

What caught me off guard, in the best way, was how genuinely supported I felt from day one. Everyone wants to help you learn and grow — that’s not a line, it’s just how it works here. The flexibility, the ESOP, the growth opportunities — they all add up. And knowing my work actually contributes to something bigger makes it meaningful.
