Penn State Health Children’s Lancaster Pediatric Center

Renovations to big-box store creates new Children’s Pediatric Center in Lancaster

Barton Healthcare provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and architectural lighting design services for a 46,000 square-foot fit-out of an abandoned Toys “R” Us store creating a new pediatric physician practice for Penn State Health.

The new Pediatric Center condenses multiple modalities into one convenient location. The repurposed building accommodates departments such as Ophthalmology, Primary Care, Behavioral Health, Imaging and Lab testing, and many other specialty care services.

The architectural lighting included a lighting design that accentuate the unique skylight feature and graphic wall art, while aiding in wayfinding and create a healthcare space that met design parameters for sustainability, comfort, safety, and function.

The new pediatric center has found new life by welcoming children into its doors once more – this time bringing comfort, relief, and welcome distractions to the children experiencing anxiety and seeking care.

Barton’s Lighting Studio is honored to have received the 2023 National IES Award of Merit and a Section Award for Interior Lighting Design on this project from the Illuminating Engineering Society’s (IES) Philadelphia Section.
