Kinesiology Laboratory at Penn State

Renovated Space Creates Kinesiology Teaching Labs & Active Learning Classrooms

Barton Education provided MEP engineering services for 3,500 square feet of renovation of an existing squash facility in Recreation Hall to create a kinesiology laboratory for Penn State’s Health and Human Department.

The project included renovation of ten full-sized, two-story squash courts into a number of different spaces, including two exercise rooms, a rehab room, a research lab, two classrooms, a storage room, two mechanical support rooms, a group of individual restrooms, and a central lobby.

The project required extending existing utilities from the existing main building to the largely undeveloped court building, including chilled water, hot water, domestic water, sanitary, sprinkler, power, fire alarm, and telecommunications.  Also in the scope was a new 15-ton air handling unit, several new electrical panelboards, new plumbing fixtures, new lighting and controls throughout, and an ADA accessible entrance.
