Presidents Row Student Housing Revamped
Barton Education provided MEP design and construction services for the first phase of renovations to ten “sister” residence halls that comprise Presidents Row at Washington & Jefferson College.
The initial phase to upgrade three of the 3-story dormitories (Harrison, Jefferson, & Lincoln), which are approximately 8,300 square-feet each, involved replacement of the heating/cooling system with a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system along with a dedicated outdoor-air system (DOAS) unit on the roof to provide the proper ventilation for spaces.
Sprinkler systems did not exist, so a new fire water service was designed to serve all of Presidents Row, and a sprinkler system was installed in the 3 renovated halls.
The project also included replacement of sanitary risers, lighting with LED fixtures, panelboards, transformers, and receptacles/data jacks, along with MEP infrastructure upgrades to support reconfiguration of the two ground floor “common rooms” into a kitchen, laundry room, lounge, and ADA bedrooms/bathrooms.
